Port St. John, FL. – Doris Quincey Williams, age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 1, 2013 while in Cape Canaveral Hospital. Doris was born in Levy County, FL., on February 16, 1920 to Walter and Lola Adams. She lived in Trenton, FL., from 1979 to 2005 when she moved to Port St. John, FL. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Trenton, FL. for many years and also the First Baptist of Port St. John, FL. She loved her Lord and her family dearly. She will truly be missed.
Her first job in Gainesville, FL. was with her brother-in-law Gerald Horne at Home Appliance, from there she went to work for Sheriff Joe Crevasse and later Sheriff Lou Hendry. Doris retired from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office in 1981.
She was married to Loy D. Quincey of Levy County, FL. from April 1939 to his death in January 1955 and she married Delma H. Williams of Trenton, FL. from March 1979 to his death in September 1983. She is preceded in death by her son, John W. Quincey.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Quincey Purvis of Port St. John, FL., her grandchildren: Emmis “Skip” Purvis and Christopher Purvis both of Port St. John, FL., and Lauren Quincey McCain of Chiefland, FL., great-grandchildren: Brandi Purvis of Port St. John, FL., Hailey McCain, Chelsea McCain and John McCain all of Chiefland, FL., a great great granddaughter, Emma Holstein of Port St. John, FL., and her sister, Marguerite Read of Trenton, FL.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Douglas, Pastor officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
